Umber

Earthy dark green color. Umber was one of the first pigments used by humans.

The great age of umber came during the Baroque period, when it was often used to create dark shades in the Chiaroscuro style.

Rembrandt used it as an important element of his rich and complex browns. Italian Baroque artist Caravaggio used umber to create darkness in his paintings.

In tattooing, this shade perfectly conveys shadows in all the diversity of wildlife.
